Topic: Dread of God
Text: Ecclesiastes 12:13; Exodus 15:16-17;Deuteronomy 1:29-30; 2:25
Ecclesiastes 12:13
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Exodus 15:16-17
Fear and dread shall fall upon them; By the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; Till thy people pass over, O LORD, Till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased. Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, In the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, In the sanctuary, O LORD, which thy hands have established.
Deuteronomy 1:29-30
Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them. The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;
Deuteronomy 2:25
This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.
The fear of God is the understanding of who God is and respecting and keeping to bringing Him pleasure out of love and reverence for Him. True fear of a person is the giving of honour, respect and reverence to that person out of our free will. The true fear of God is giving God Honour, Respect and Reverence. Anything different is unacceptable. If you have power to stop God’s punishment in your life, would you still fear Him like you do now. If not, then your fear of God is immature.
There are many that are only afraid of God because of what He might do them, not because they have chosen to love and respect. Demons are in this category. They fear and reverence God because of what He can do to them. This is also the case for many unbelievers, they fear God because of His wrath.
We must fear out of love, honour and reverence and we must trust Him to put His Dread around us so the enemies will be subdued before us and crushed. Dread of God killed Jericho for the Israelites before they arrived there. They took the city easily through the fear (dread) of God that came upon the city. Fear God and let His dread come upon your enemies.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me to fear You and walk in pleasing and serving you in Jesus Mighty Name
2. Father, put the dread of me in the hearts of all my Enemies in Jesus Mighty Name.
